#11 All about LibraryThing

I had fun locating covers of books I wanted to add to my library catalogue. LibraryThing is a great resource, handy for both professional and personal use. Not being a big fiction reader most of my choices are memoirs and personal stories.

#9 Finding Feeds

Hooray...I have finally managed to find time to look at subscribing to Feeds. I added 12 to my account which included Boing Boing, CoolTools, Unshelved, iTunes, Dictionary.com Word of the day and LibraryBytes.

I liked LibraryBytes for its insightful information relevant to the library profession. It contained a report about social media which explained how blogs are becoming a more important part of global media consumption for internet users than some traditional media channels.

Subscribing to RSS Feeds saves time and allows users to have access to up-to-date information which may be of interest to them. I can see the benefits of using them in my workplace situation but I don't think I would bother using them at home as I sometimes feel I have information overload! I'm sure regular users of the Internet would find this tool invaluable.

# 7 Blog about technology

Whilst researching for this week's blog entry on technology I decided to search for information on a piece of technology I use every day. As I rely on my alarm clock on a daily basis I thought it would be interesting to see how technology has been used on this small electronic appliance that sits buzzing next to my head during my hours of slumber.

I found an article on an alarm clock called the BanClock. Interestingly, this alarm clock doesn't feature a snooze button and instead requires the user to insert a coin to activate the snooze function. I guess this is a way to help you save money at the same time as ensuring you do not continously hit the snooze option, making you late for work. I think my BanClock would be full of coins within a couple of days going by my habit of hitting the snooze button for an extra 1/2 hour each morning. This article was found at http://www.smartwiredhouse.com.au/trade/reading-room-article/471

Another odd alarm clock I read about is The BlowFly Alarm Clock. This one takes off and flys around the room, hovering and making an annoying noise until you catch it and return it to its base.

Makes my CD alarm clock seem rather dull!

Had a lot of fun playing with all the mash ups and Third Party tools. I used Flickr Toys to create this jigsaw using a photo I took whilst on holidays in Queensland.

It's amazing all the items you can create using all these tools. It can be very addictive where hours seem to pass without you realising. I also enjoyed playing around with Spell with Flickr and FD Toy's Trading card maker.

#5 Discovering Flickr

Yellow daffodil

It makes you want to actually do something with your photo's rather than leaving them stored on your digital camera or stuffing them in a box . I found it amazing all the fantastic photo's people are willing to share.

I chose this photo of a daffodil because it looks cheery and reflects my openess to learning new things. (Such as now I know a Tag isn't simply that little square label hanging out the back of a collar!)
